Project Business Case Development Overview

Project Business Case Development is the process by which an organisation assesses the feasibility and possible rewards of pursuing a certain project. It entails generating a detailed document that defines the project’s rationale, objectives, scope, expenses, risks, and estimated return on investment. The business case is a technique decision-makers use to determine whether a project matches the organisation’s strategic goals and is worthwhile in terms of resources, time, and effort.

This course is a two-day introductory online course and is presented by ECS using MS Teams for
professionals involved in project business case development and feasibility studies for major capital
projects, such as Project Sponsors, Project Directors and Capital Project Investment Managers.

The course fee is R3600 VAT excluded per delegate or R3200 per delegate for 3 or more from the same
organisation.

Attendees will obtain a certificate of attendance.

Synopsis of course:
In 2018 the G20 group of nations adopted the Five Case Model methodology as an international standard
for project development for infrastructure projects. The Five Case Model is a structured approach to
project business case development and is used to demonstrate a project’s economic and commercial
viability.

This course is presented as an overview of the Five Case Model and its applicability to the South African infrastructure development environment.
Note: Candidates attending this course do need experience in the project development environment.

Main Objective:
The Five Case Model methodology has been adopted by G20 countries, including South Africa, for the
development of major infrastructure projects. The main objective of the course is to provide participants
with foundational knowledge of the Five Case Model within the context of South Africa through Project Business Case Development training.
