JBCC

Prof Tinus Maritz is the CEO of the JBCC, a body which he has served on for many years, he brings a wealth of experience as an authority on the JBCC suite of contracts.

He is a Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor, a life member of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors and a fellow member of the Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa). He has vast experience in practice and academia, specialising in the field of construction law during the latter part of his career.

Tinus is the author or co-author of various technical standard documents for the South African building industry, and has served on several governing bodies, advisory committees and technical committees. He was appointed as full-time lecturer in 1975 by the University of Pretoria and is the head of department of the Department of Construction Economics, and chair of the School for the Built Environment. His areas of expertise are construction law and dispute resolution.

Uwe Putlitz qualified as an Architect at the University of the Witwatersrand and subsequently awarded the first M.Sc Building. He practiced as an Architect and/or as a Project Manager for various firms and as managing member of Building Strategy Network until 2000 when he was appointed as CEO of the Joint Building Contacts Committee (JBCC) until his retirement in 2019.

Uwe is a visiting lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand, and the RICS, regularly contributing articles to various industry journals about ‘dispute avoidance’ when using Standard form Contracts as well as involved with the review of applications for registration by the Council for Project and Construction Management Professions.
